Frank J. Barrett’s Oblation

On Sunday, July 28th, Fr. Bede received Frank J. Barrett as a Camaldolese Benedictine Oblate. Frank, who uses W.B. Yeats’ descriptive words to characterize himself: ‘Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy,’ expressed a deep feeling of homecoming. After many years of being away from the Catholic Church, his long standing relationship with New Camaldoli Hermitage, especially with Fr. Michael Fish, his spiritual advisor, offered a way back to his faith. Frank, who is particularly inspired by the balance between contemplation and community, found that his time at Incarnation solidified his return journey.

You may know that Frank is also an accomplished jazz musician. In fact, each Sunday at Incarnation, we are singing the Lord’s Prayer and the Lamb of God to the beautiful settings that Frank composed.
